Our Purpose
We exist to steward the recreation for a one-of-a-kind black owned resort at the 244-acres purchased at Lake Placid, MO restoring the vision of serenity for black people as stated by its founder Dr. P.C. Turner.
We will Host unforgettable retreats for learning professionals and recovering adults who need a space to think, create or pick up the fragments of life as they return to their whole being.
Create a phenomenal series of learning webinars, experiences and curriculum for baby boomers and their caregivers to learn in community from experts on health & aging.
Develop a signature offer of a nature-based methodology and physical practice field for curriculum designers and their followers.
Our Mission
The Center for Authentic Listening and Learning (C.A.L.L.), is a nonprofit committed to preserving the land and legacy of Missouri’s first Black resort, Lake Placid, rooted in Dr. P.C. Turner’s 1934 stewardship, the founder of the land. Our mission is to steward a vision of serenity and liberation for people in nature at Lake Placid, MO. Recognizing the land as a living organism, we approach this journey toward cultural and economic wholeness by listening to the stories from the community and honoring the humanity of Black people.
Our Priorities
Given the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous nature of our world, changes in society and in our communities are happening faster than ever before. The attention-economy has stolen our focus and resulted in greater fragmentation and a stronger grasp for certainty. C.A.L.L sees an opportunity to provide a space for continuous learning with the support of nature. This will offer learners the freedom to fail and provide a context to practice restoring the pieces that were left behind.
The Center will be available for learners of all types, but with preference to those who are looking to return to wholeness of self individually and for their family and community.
Our priorities include:
Appointing board members who care about preserving Missouri Heritage
Being awarded Grant funding
Increase our individual donor communities
Secure a key corporate partner
Creating an earned revenue stream
Supporting the current projects being formed within the Lake Placid lot owners community
